Davis County Foundation Leaders Attend Training Session Print E-mail

Davis County, Iowa --- Leaders of Davis County Community Foundation recently attended a philanthropy training workshop sponsored by the Iowa Community Affiliate Network or Iowa C.A.N. The Iowa C.A.N. organization is comprised of over thirty newly established community foundation affiliates from throughout the state.

The Davis County Community Foundation is a newly established countywide community foundation dedicated to strengthening and serving the philanthropic needs of communities and nonprofit organizations and other institutions throughout Davis County. The new foundation was established to help the county qualify for the recently established Endow Iowa and County Endowment Fund legislation.

The Iowa General Assembly has put in place a number of new incentives designed to promote and enhance community- based philanthropy. The Davis County Community Foundation is committed to becoming a catalyst for philanthropic activity, including countywide endowment building and grantmaking.

The Davis County Community Foundation joined the Iowa C.A.N. in order to reduce administrative overheads, maximize investment options and gain access to professionals who can provide technical assistance and support. Iowa C.A.N. is sponsored by the Iowa Area Development Group Community Foundation and the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation.

The Iowa C.A.N. quarterly meeting focused on all aspects of professional, responsible and enlightened grantmaking. The Davis County Community Foundation will soon receive a state award that will allow them to initiate grant making in early 2006.

Citizens, not-for-profit organizations and government entities wanting to know more about Davis County Community Foundation and grant application policies and processes should plan on attending an information session on how to apply for grants that is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29 at the McCollum Complex (DC Schools central office) at 7 p.m.
